Dak. Birth Date: 23 Jun 1893 Parent's Origin: of American parents Occupation: civil engineer Comment: enlisted at Camp Meade, Md., on Dec. 14, 1917; served in Company K, 23rd Engineers, to discharge. Grade: Private 1st Class, April 22, 1918; overseas from March 30, 1918, to June 9, 1919. Engagement: Offensive: Meuse-Argonne. Discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, on June 20, 1919, as a Private 1st Class. Living in Fargo at 1920 census and on West Silver Street in Albuquerque at 1930 census, where he owns a home valued at $6000. He settled in Albuquerque NM and died there. He worked for the Veterans Administration most of his life.- Gladys Wardwell Lehman. This account from the Deming New Mexico Headlight on 23 February 1951 involves a police chase and the arrest of a suspect who plowed into his car during the chase: "The accident occurred during a dust storm that cut visibility to only a few feet on Highway 70-80. A Veterans Administration Car driven by Fred Wardwell had slowed down to approximately 15 miles an hour when the Chevrolet driven by Womack (the suspect) plowed into the rear of the VA car. None of the occupants of the car driven by Wardwell were injured, although the car was demolished by fire." Cemetery record says last known address was 501 North Guadalupe Street P. O.
