Named for Gen. Adna Romanza Chaffee. (From Gladys Wardwell Lehman) My grandmother, Winona, lost her father when she was a child and she and her mother went to live with her father's brother, the General. She was raised in his household with his children. Among other things he charged up San Juan Hill with Teddy Roosevelt and was the commander of the Boxer Rebellion in China as well as Secretary of the Army for a short time.

A musician and buisinessman in Los Angeles, later owned several resorts in Oregon, and retired to Escondido, CA- Gladys Wardwell Lehman
