Birth: Sep., 1744 Kent, England Death: Aug. 20, 1784 Hunterdon County New Jersey, USA Frederick and his wife, Catherine Eckel, were married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1769 and his Last Will & Testament, dated June 10, 1784, named the following children. John, 1770-1845; Frederick, 1772-1861; Catherine, 1773; Mary Magdalene, 1776-1804; & Henry, 1781. Catherine Eckel Jordan, Frederick's wife, was the daughter of Henry Eckel, 1717-1764 and Susanna, 1719-1750. Excerpt from "Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I-III, by Dr. John Woolf Jordan"; Frederick Jordan, of French extractiion, was born in county Kent, England, in September of 1744. In early manhood, he came to Pennsylvania with his brother, Mark, and shortly after settled in Alexandria township, Hunterdon county, New Jersey, where he purchased a farm of one hundred and forty-two acres and erected a flour mill. He subsequently purchased another mill property at Hickory Tavern, same county, of both of which he died possessed. During the greater part of the Revolution, the Jordan mills were kept busy grinding grain for the use of the army. He died August 20, 1784, and he and his wife are buried in the churchyard of St. Thomas Protestant Episcopal Church. |
