There is evidence to suggest that he was called "Edward". Although that has not been proven.

Verbal history tells of Edward Hult, carrying a keg of fish across a frozen lake. He fell on the ice and was crushed by the keg of fish. The story states that Gus Holt (his youngest son) was 4 years old. That would put the year of death in 1871.
