A remarkably fortunate soldier of the Great War. Served in Europe with the Royal 22nd regiment from 1914 to 1918. Returned to Canada after Nov 11, 1918, sound in both mind and body, and remained in "Les 22" as a sergeant-major until his death from ALS in 1936. The army may have realized he was too bright to waste as cannon fodder. I don't believe he served in the trenches, but worked in an office. His commanding officer wrote on his 1936 discharge that he was a good accountant. |
