Came to America in 1854. Did not meet AFJ Roth until she went to Portage with her family.

Her husband died in 1873, at age 43, leaving her with four boys ages 3, 7, 9 & 12. She conducted a millinery and dress making shop at first in a store in town and then in her house. Her husbands $3000 life insurance policy was used to pay the remaining $500 owed on the house and $500 was used to buy millinery supplies. She loaned $2000 to her brother-in-law Anton Klenert so he could expand his meat market and feedlot. When paid back, she loaned the $2000 to brother-in-law Alois Zienert so he could open a second store in Tyndall SD.

As the boys reached the age of 16, they found work. AA worked as a clerk in a store in Tomah. Then AA and TJ worked for their uncle Alois Zienert in general stores at Bon Homme and Tyndall, Dakota Territories. TJ worked for Alois Zienert until his 21st birthday (1885). Then AA and TJ went into business together with a general store in Wessington Springs SD and later a branch store at Alpena SD which TJ ran until he bought the Bee Hive Bazaar in West Superior in 1889.

In Nov 1888 Frances was visiting in Wessington Springs SD with her grandson AT.

In Jan 1889 she was in Alpena, SD and she returned to Wessington Springs to help care for AT who was sick.

She lived at 1615 John Ave Superior in 1925.
