In 1891, AA sold out the Alpena store and brought his family to Superior and lived with the others at 426 Hughitt Ave. His yongest brother Carl had a hemorrhage of the lungs in March 1882 and the Doctor advised a warmer climate so he and his mother moved back to New Lisbon and AA and Anna took charge of the household. On Nov. 2, 1892, AA's daughter Anna Frances was born and AA's wife Anna died two weeks later of typhoid, which was prevalent. Anna was buried at Portage and AA moved there in April, 1893 and his mother came to keep house for him bringing Carl (AA's young brother) and Huttie (AA's son) who lived with his grandmother after the death of his mother. The baby Anna Frances was raised by her maternal grandmother Butter in Mayville WI. AA started a store in Portage and ran it until shortly after he married Clara Hettinger 23 Oct 1895. Then he sold out and moved back to Superior. In the mean time, TJ married Emma Bierbauer 12 Jan 1893 and they were living at 426 Hughitt. Carl died in Sep 1893. AA and family lived with TJ and Emma for two months in 1896 and then moved to 6th and Cummings.

AA retired from Roth's in 1923 because of poor health.
