She graduated from Milwaukee Donner, a girls finishing school. After her father had died in 1900, the family moved briefly to California (Francis about age 15). After she was married, she talked about San Francisco so much that her husband gave her the nickname "Frisco". While in California her brother, Percival Charles Peterson, lost the family fortune in a Lower California land deal and they returned to Butte des Morts.

When a student in nurse's training, she met her husband in the operating room at St. Bernard's Hospital in Chicago where he was a general surgeon. At that time there were very few surgical specialties. She and her husband were married in Milwaukee in 1910. Soon afterwards they left for Europe for about five months as combination honeymoon-study trip. At that time Vienna was foremost in pathology where Dr. Donkle was studying at the Altermeine Krankenhaus.

She was quite devoted to her children and especially enjoyed family parties, birthdays, Memorial Day , the 4 th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. During the Summer she and the children went to their Summer home in Butte des Morts, Wisconsin, where she had grown up. Her husband joined them every other weekend, usually for three days. Her Uncle Fred frequently met him at the train station in South Oshkosh in the family launch, the "Elknod".

in 1936, after her daughter, Lorraine, was married to George Weatherby , an excellent piano player, on almost every family occasion George played and everyone gathered around the piano and sang.
