Stephen Moylan Dec. 22, 1777 at Valley Forge after finishing a 2 year enlistment in Captain John Fitzgerald’s company of the 3rd Regiment of the Virginia Line. He enlisted in the 3rd regiment in December of 1775. Following his enlistment at Valley Forge, according to his pension application #S36007, he served under William Washington and was discharged at Morristown, N.J by Capt. Robert Powell. However, his discharge voucher reads, “December 22, 1780 at Philadelphia”. Francis Hagan fought at the battles of Flatbush, White Plains, Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth. Francis Hagan’s brother, Charles Hagan, was also a revolutionary soldier for three years with Col. Grayson’s 16th Regiment of the Virginia Line and finished the war as a substitute. Charles Hagan fought at Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth and saw ‘the taking of Cornwallis at York’. Francis Hagan was born April 1, 1754 in Charles County, Maryland. His family moved to Fairfax Co., Virginia where they worked as bricklayers. His father John Hagan and brother Charles Hagan made and laid thousands of bricks in the construction of George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon and appear in General Washington's diary and cash accounts.
