Francis Norbert Filliater Sr., 80, passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Fo storia Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Fostoria, to Wm G. and Josephine (Depin et) Filliater, deceased. He married Phyllis E. Benson Sept. 11, 1948, at St. Wendelin Catholic Chur ch, Fostoria, and she died May 20, 1996. Those who survive her include Frances (Gary) Wagner, Bradenton, Fla.; Lin da (Arthur) Schlievert, Findlay; and Dawn (Don) Decker, Fostoria; two son s, Edward (Lorrel) Filliater and Norbert (Sue) Filliater, Jr., both of Fos toria; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter; 1 b rother, Donald G. Filliater, Ariz.; three sisters, Helen (Walter) Fease l, Fremont; Wilma (Jack) Ziegman, Orville; and Janice (Robert) Colman, Fos toria. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Filliater; a brother, Willi am J. Filliater; three sisters, Regina Schlachter, Ardella Russell and Ger aldine Canterbury and one great-granddaughter. He retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad, was also known for roasti ng and marketing Filliater Peanuts in the Fostoria area. He was also a U. S. Marine Corp. veteran serving in WWII. His memberships include St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; life memb er of the Fostoria Elks Lodge #935; and the United Sportsman Club; Honora ry life member of Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree Council #1197, Fostori a; and American Legion Post #73, Fostoria. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Hoeni ng Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be he ld at 8:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 200 4, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church where a Rosary will be recited at 12: 30 p.m. Burial will be held at Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia, where the United Veter ans of Fostoria will conduct military honors.
