Frank emmigrated to South Africa with his parents when he was 6 monthsold on the passenger liner 'Athlone Castle'. The family settled in Kimberley where Christopher was employed by the South African Railyways as a checker and retired early. Christopher and Sally bought a property at 14 Quinn street but when Frank was 5 and Sally was expecting Peggy he was sent to live with his grandparents John and Frances at 52 St Augustyn St. Frank attended Kimberley Boys' High School and then Teachers' Training College in Kimberley. He became a teacher at Claremont School in Cape Town. Frank took a year off teaching to study for a year at UCT with money borrowed from Uncle Bills. He obtained a BA. Frank headmaster of Claremont from 1939 until 1973 when he retired. Died 1990 England |
