Obituary.
Francis Sumner Austin was born October 16, 1824, in Adison county, Vermont; died at his home in this city March 17, 1900 at 11: 30 a.m. When quite young his parents moved to Bartholomew county, Ind., where he was reared to manhood. About the year 1848 he married Phoebe Mapes; came to Hancock county in 1852, spent a short time in Ft. Green township, then bought a farm in East Carthage upon which he located. He first bought one quarter section, a few years later another quarter, making him a very fine farm of 320 acres which he improved; substantial fencing, fine house and barn, in fact, every convenience for successful gain and stock-raising.
