Biography of Frances Malinda Hamby
Frances Malinda Hamby was born in South Carolina, the daughter of Andrew Hamby and Sarah Unk.
Frances Malinda Hamby married John R Pollard before 1859 in Pickens, Alabama. William L. Pollard was 6 months old when the 1860 census was taken. Sally was born about 1862. Both children are listed on the 1880 census with their mother.
John R Pollard enlisted a year after his brothers, in March 1863, possibly because of the birth of Sally. He died at Chickamauga on 20 Sep 1863, just a few months after enlisting, leaving Malinda with two young children to raise.
Frances M Pollard filed for the first time for a Widows Confederate pension in Pickens County, Alabama on 23 May 1887 and was approved on 24 Feb 1898 on behalf of her husband, John R Pollard. She states that he died in the war and she is currently living in Millport, (Lamar County) Alabama and that she has not re-married.
