Mr. Weisz is a son ofFlorentine and Mary (Zettler) Weisz, the mother's family being amongearly settlers of Columbus. His father was born near Strasburg, Germany,October 25, 1822, and coming to America in 1830, settled in Starkcounty, Ohio. Here he plied his trade as a blacksmith and carriagemakerfor seventeen years, at the expiration of which time, in 1847, he cameto Columbus, where he engged in the same business which he followeduntil he retired from active life, but was not able to enjoy the fruitsof his labors long before death called him on June 18, 1901. With this firm he remained but a brief period, when he enteredthe employ of H. In1883 he left the forge, which had been the means of enabling him toamass considerable money, and established himself in the coal business,in which he remained alone until 1892 when he organized a stock firmunder the name of the Powell Run Coal Company. Three years later hebought up the entire amount of stock and has since been sole owner andproprietor. His business is in a most prosperous condition and from yearto year has witnessed steady growth, until at preent the volume of tradeis about as much as Mr. Weisz can conveniently handle.
