Personal History

1832 - Birth: Flora McLean was born in 1932 on Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland. Source is image of gravemarker. Her 1912 death registration also says she was born in 1832. However, 1871 Census of Canada says she was born in 1834 while the 1881 Census of Canada says she was born in 1833. CANNOT FIND HER BIRTH REGISTRATION IN OLD PARISH REGISTERS FOR KILCHOMAN PARISH.

1841 - Census: On June 6, 1841, Flora McLean 7 was living with her parents, John McLean 36 and Isabella McLean 24?? and siblings Barbara 12, Margaret 9 (spelled Margarat in this census), Bella 5, Mary 3 and Samuel 1, in Portweemys (now Port Wemyss) on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Source is 1941 Scotland census.

1847? - Immigration: Flora McLean immigrated to Canada with her family. NOTE: This has not been directly confirmed but a number of documents say that members of her family immigrated in 1847. 1901 census says she immigrated in 1950.

1849 - Marriage: In 1849, Flora McLean married William Randall Robinson. Grave marker confirms they were married but not the date.

1851 - 1851 Canada Census for Oro Township has not survived. Source is Library and Archives Canada.

1861 - Census: In 1861, Flora Robinson 28, was living with her husband William Robinson 43, Farmer, and their children: Essa? 10, Mary 9, UNCLEAR 6, Margaret 4 and Elizabeth (spelled Eliza) 2 in a one story log house in Oro Township, Simcoe, Ontario. Source is 1861 Census of Canada.

1871 - Census: In April, 1871, Flora Robinson 37, was living with her husband William Randall Robinson 54, and their children William Dean Robinson 21 (born in England), Isabella 20, Mary 18, Henry 16, Margaret 14, Elizabeth (spelled Eliza) 12, Lourenzo 9, Emily 7 and Barbara 3 in Oro Township. Source is 1871 Census of Canada.

1881 - Census: In April, 1881, Flora Robinson 48 was living with her husband William Robinson 63, farmer, and their children: William D 31, Mary (spelled Marry in this census) 25, servant, Margaret 23, servant, Elizabeth (spelled Eliza) 21, Lorenzo 19, Emily 17, Barbara 13 and Alinda (spelled Allinda in this census) 7 in Oro Township. 1891 - Census: On April 15, 1891, Flora Robinson 60 was living with her husband William R Robinson 73 and their children Lorenzo (spelled Lounzia) 28 and Alinda 17 in a one and one half story brick house in Oro township. Source is 1891 Census of Canada.

1895 - Death of Husband: William Randall Robinson died in 1895. Source is image of grave marker in St James Cemetery, Barrie, Ontario.

1901 - Census: Flora Robinson 65, widowed, was living with her daughter Eliz, 30 in the same house as her son Lorenzo 39 and his wife Ella 28 and their daughter Margery 1 in Oro Township. Source is 1901 Census of Canada.

1911 - CANNOT LOCATE HER or Lorenzo in the 1911 Census of Canada.

1912 - Death and Burial: Flora Robinson 80, widow, born in Scotland, died on August 28, 1912 in Oro Township at Lot 6 Concession 1. The Death Registration listed her parents as John McLean, Scotland, and Bella Gilchrist, Scotland. She died of senile decay. Informant was Lorenzo Robinson, Barrie (her son).
