Flora, or Birdie, as she was known, operated a millinery shop in Odon for a short time in about 1910-1911. She later took some nurses training in Evansville, IN. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter making many quilts for the family and her church, the Odon Methodist Church. She always had a garden and canned vegetables. She was extremely proud of her mother who was a school teacher in Martin County.
