Watertown Daily Times, 4 Mar 1970: CLAYTON MAN DIES Clayton-- F. Thornton Garnsey, 69, Bartlett Point RD, died Tuesday at 3:25 p.m. in Edward John Noble Hospital, Canton, where he had been a patient two weeks. The funeral will be Friday... in the Clayton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Calvin F. Zimmer, Canton, and Rev. Kenneth Reynolds, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be inSt. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence Corners... He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sylvia C. Garnsey; a son, Leonard, Clayton; a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Calhoun, Clayton; his mother, Mrs. Carrie Slate Garnsey; a brother, Garland, Canton and nine grandchildren. Born July 25, 1910 on Grindstone Island, a son of John and Carrie Slate Garnsey, he attended local schools and married Sylvia Clark Aug. 22, 1932 on Grindstone Island. The couple had lived in the Clayton region since their marriage. Mr. Garnsey worked as a caretaker on private estates and was caretaker and boatman for Dr. H.A. Murray and Mrs. R.L. Bacon for 30 years. In the winter he was employed by the Town of Clayton. He was a member of the Clayton Masonic Lodge and Grindstone Island United Methodist Church.
