Sterling 1998 The Waterman-Battey Cemetery is located 15 feet east of Bowen Hill Road at telephone pole #9. It is 150 ft x 75 ft. in excellent condition, and enclosed with granite posts and iron rails with an iron gate. The historic cemetery sign in good condition. There are 48 burials with 33 inscribed stones. It is on the tax assessor's map #316, lot #66. James N. Arnold visited on 24 July 1905 and noted "Near Deacon Hawkins yard [CY 022] is another of Battey and Waterman families" (Vol. 6, Book A, page 987). Joseph and Elizabeth Knight, of Scituate. Mr. Knight was a farmer, and owned and lived on a small farm at the foot of Tunk Hill, in Scituate. He resided in said town all his life. He was a captain of a militia company a part of his life and went by the name of Capt. Knight. They were members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Knight became the step-father of the writer about 1835-6, and lived with him until he died. They had two children in first marriage, who died young, name of children and date of births not known to the writer. |
