References
  1. The DOB is sometimes given as 21 MAY 1650, which implies an original source. Also, this may be a confusion with their DOM which was 21 May 1673. I've not seen documentation to support the 21 May DOB, but 1650 is about right, hence I've substituted c1650, pending identification of original source documentation.
  2. At various times the area has been described as the Duchy of Berg, the United Duchies of Jullich-Cleve-Berg, Rhine-Westphalia, Prussia, etc. All are correct, depending on of what time period you are speaking. In the period 1650-1700 Mulheim an der Ruhr was within the Duchy of Berg. It now lies in Northern Rhine Westphalia, but that entity did not come into existence until 1946.
