Facts and Events
On 1830 Census there was only one Keith family listed, Gemima [Jemima] Keith, "Widow" . She had 2 daughters "five and under ten" years old. Dinitia, mentioned in Jemima's Will, was one for certain. Evaline was married in March 1836 to Jesse Hays. Jemima's Will was written the following October, 1836. The Will referred to ". . .having hertofore provided for all my other children by giving them what I considered their equal share. . ." This would cover the married ones, including Evaline. It also indicates Evaline was over 18 since there is no "Consent" from a parent on her marriage record. By Jim Williams There is a "Jessie Hays" on the 1850 census with "Sophia" Keith in Kentucky. It is possible that Evaline has passed away and that Jessie Hays has remarried to "Sophia". There is not a marriage record for Sophia and Jessie Hays that has been found yet. The "U.S. and International" marriage record in Ancestry could just be showing a married relationship between Sophia and Jessie taken from the census records. Image Gallery
