From Oscar Burton Robbins' book, pg 210:

Eugene Wesley Kaufman Born at Storm Lake, Iowa, the last of 7 children. Schooling at Storm Lake and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Practically grew up on Storm Lake a pretty lake nearly 5 miles long and 3 miles wide. Fishing, Skating, Ice Boating, Hockey, Football, Basket Ball, Track were my early sports which I still enjoy. Went West to Spokane about 1910, worked for P. Welsh Railway Contractor, offices in the Old National Bank building. Transferred to Vancouver, B.C. where we built, equipped and operated a Railroad - The Pacific Great Eastern. 1924 was accountant for P. Welch in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. The first World War stopped this construction and I was sent to be Cashier of a Bank at Modros, Oregon, owned by Mr. Welsh. Was expecting a call to go to War, but it ended before the call came. Transferred to Seattle, Washington, and went into Apartment House business with brother Erwin. While in Seattle, did front office work in the Olympic Hotel, Seattle's finest; sold mortgage loans and other securities, also did accounting. Came to Salt Lake City, Utah as Accountant and Statistician for Sunfreze Ice Cream and Arden Milk Company, now Creameries of America, Inc. Depression of 1933 found me jobless, started in small meat business during depression years and up to time of 2nd World War when I went into Government employment. After War again in own business of specialty selling and Accounting. /signed/ Wes
