ERNEST ADKINS, 98, of Midkiff, W.Va., died at his home on Sunday, January, 2, 2005. He was born November 30, 1906, at Ferrelsburg, W.Va., the son of the late Lemach and Lanie Adkins. He was a coal miner and a well tender for Columbia Gas. He was a Christian by faith and a lay Minister for the Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Lola Smith Adkins; one son, Alvis Adkins; one daughter, Dorothy Stratton; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Ernest is survived by the children of himself and his late wife Lola, daughters Ernestine McComas of West Hamlin, W.Va., Frances and her husband Thomas Miller and Betty and her husband Basil Roy of Hamlin, W.Va., Jennifer and her husband Jeff Roquemore of Dresden, Ohio, and one son, Robert Dale and his wife Kathy Adkins of Hamlin. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, with Rev. Bobby Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Lovejoy Cemetery, Palermo, W.Va. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The children would like to thank the many caregivers who assisted in caring for their parents over the past several years.
