The following information was found on a RootsWeb page and was submitted by Kathey Hunt under the title "The Family of George Barnett, Kaufman Co TX" (http://www.rootsweb.com/~txkaufma/families/barnett.htm):

"Enoch C Tinnin ( 2 Feb 1823 - 20 Jul 1876 Kaufman, TX - buried Kaufman City)

He was son of Lemuel Tinnin & Elizabeth Walton - he was first married to Caroline Carter, sister to Kaufman County pioneers William H Carter & James Matthew Carter. Enoch was living with W H Carter on the 1850 census.

Enoch was one of the first men to live in what is today Kaufman County, arriving in 1845 as a Land Surveyor according to Rolls of the Texas Pioneer Association. He received land through Mercer's Colony, patented Kaufman County original Survey A-847, and also had an original headright in Henderson County. He was the first Kaufman County Surveyor elected in 1849. He was elected Kaufman County Tax Collector & Assessor, serving that office 1876-1880 [presumably just in 1876, unless this was a different person than the one who died in 1876].

CSA - Co G 19th TX Cavalry, enlisted 1 Apr 1862 at Kaufman; described as 6', blue eyes, brown hair - served until Sept 10, 1863

On the 1850 Slave Schedule E C Tinnin is shown owning 1 male slave. It is the only year he is seen on the Slave rolls.

His Probate was filed in Kaufman County 21 Jul 1876, file # 95-A with Eliza Jane Tinnin as Executor. Details can be found in Probate Minute Book A pgs 77, 81, 82 & 93; Book A-2, pgs 240-242.

After Enoch's death, Jane Barnett Tinnin kept up a large farm. As late as 1892 she still farmed 700 acres of land within the county.

Jane's Probate was filed in Kaufman County on 1 Aug 1923, file # 36, with son Alex as Executor. Details are in Will Book X, pgs 359-363."
