Emma Mary Keyte was born in 1869 at Broadway in Worcestershire, daughter of a boot binder named Mary Keyte, formerly Lies, and her husband Richard Keyte, a slater and plasterer. Remarkably, Mary was nearly 48 when Emma was born. Emma was baptised on 7th February 1869 at Broadway. The 1871 census finds Emma living with her parents and siblings at China Square in Broadway.
