Emily Phoebe Grant was baptised on 5th March 1852 at Sidlesham in Sussex, daughter of Jane Grant, formerly Clear, and her husband William Grant, a fisherman. She appears in the 1861 census living at the Crab & Lobster in Sidlesham, where her father was also the publican. Her father died in 1862. By 1871, Emily and her mother were living at Portsmouth, a few miles west of Sidlesham. She has yet to be researched after 1871.
