Obit in Sioux Valley News, 4 October 1900: Died Saturday, September 29, 1900, at her home in Correctionville, Mrs. Emiline Jennings Garner, wife of Charles Garner, at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 4 days. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. James T. Mumford officiating. Interment was in the Ridge Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Garner were among the pioneers of this county. Emiline Jennings was born at New Milford, Connecticut, April 28, 1817, and married Charles Garner, who survives her, in 1841. They moved to Winneshiek County, Iowa, in 1855. In 1866 they settled on a homestead three miles south of Correctionville, enduring hardships incident to the early settlers of the frontier. In 1883 they moved to Correctionville where they have since resided. To them were born five children. Only one, Mrs. Samuel Conaway of Rock Branch, now survives. She was a member of the Methodist Church of this place. |
