The Sioux Valley News, 17 January 1901, page 1:

The death of Charles Garner occurred Monday evening at 5 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Conaway of Moville Township. Since the death of his wife last fall Mr. Garner had made his home with his daughter but the loss of his wife of almost 60 years was felt keenly and it was apparent to all who visited him he would soon follow her into the great unknown. The deceased was born at Bridgeport, Connecticut, on May 15, 1820 and was married to Emeline Jennings in 1842. They moved to eastern Iowa in 1855 and to Woodbury County in 1866. Mr. Garner and his wife settled on Union Ridge north of Correctionville where they lived until they moved into Correctionville sixteen years ago. Five children were born to this union, three sons and two daughters - all of whom are dead but one, Mrs. Samuel Conaway. On Tuesday afternoon a short service was held at the house and the remains were thereafter brought to Moville and taken by train to Correctionville where services were held at the M.E. Church yesterday at 11 o'clock by Rev. Morgan of Rock Branch, who attended the deceased during his illness. The remains were interred in Union Ridge Cemetery (Good Hope) where his wife and son rest and near the place where they settled 35 years ago.
