He was not born until January 12, 1901, as he does not appear on the June 1900 census, on which the number of children his mother had borne does not account for him. Various records, including his Social Security record and his grave marker incorrectly cite his birth year as 1900. He married Esther M. Swartz on 6 April 1927.
