Elsie Elizabeth Cox was born on 22nd August 1907 at West Hyde in Bedfordshire, daughter of Ada Jane Cox, formerly Singleton, and her husband John Henry Cox, a gardener. Elsie was the youngest of the couple's three children, and the only girl. Elsie's father worked on the Luton Hoo estate, and the family lived in cottages belonging to the estate. By the time of the 1911 census they were living at 56 West Hyde. That census finds Elsie living there with her parents and brothers.
Elsie never married. She was still living with her parents at 56 West Hyde at the outbreak of the Second World War, when she was described as incapacitated. Elsie's father died in 1955 and her mother in 1959. Elsie was one of the beneficiaries of her mother's will.
Elsie lived to be about 90 years old. She died in 1997 in the Luton area.
