He had an on German script letter translated for his mother. OBITUARY: Wooster (Ohio) Daily Record, Tuesday, April 7, 1987, page C3. Roy Sinclair Smithville - Roy E. Sinclair, 81, 166 Blue Beard Drive, North Fort Myers, Fla., and Smithville during the summer months, died Sunday, April 5, at his home. Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home, Rittman, with Rev. Paul Mustard officiating. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne County Care Center Auxiliary Volunteers, 876 Geyer Chapel Road, Wooster 44691. He was born on a farm in Canaan Township in 1905 to Harry C. and Alic T. Derr Sinclair and lived in Sterling for 29 years before moving to Smithville in 1963. He graduated from Apple Creek High School in 1923, Mount Union College in 1928 and earned a master's degree from Ohio State University in 1937. He also attended summer school at the College of Wooster and Ashland College. He began 36 years of service to the Wayne County public schools in 1932, when he started teaching at No. 1 School in Wayne Township for two years. He then went to Sterling to teach and coach. He became administrator in 1937 but continued coaching for another seven years. In 1950 he became the first superintendent of North Central School District. In 1957, he went to Rittman schools as a teacher and counselor, retiring in 1967. Following retirement, he raised ponies on his farm near Smithville. He was a member of the Wayne County, Ohio and National Retired Teachers Associations, a charter member of Smithville Ruritan Club and served for 25 years with Wayne County TB and Health Society on the educational committee. He was also a member of Smithville United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis, whom he married Oct. 24, 1931, and two sisters, Dorothy Kauffman of Smithville and Grace Young of Loudonville. References
