According to the 1911 Mitchell County Atlas, Ellen and Patrick Dailey settled in Mitchell County in the Spring of 1855.

In the 1856 Iowa State Census, widowed 21 year old Ellen Dailey, 1 year old Jas. Dailey and a baby Pat Dailey are living with Daniel and Ellen Lane and their 12 year old daughter Jane. Ellen has lived in Iowa for one year and the Lanes for two.

Her children Denis and Cornelius both died in late 1874. Did the same illness kill them both?
