Ellen Powell,
Wife of Handford Powell, died of paralysis of the heart, at 8:00 o'clock this morning, at the home of her husband, 214 Walnut avenue. Although the deceased had been ailing with a chest affliction for about a year, her death this morning was very sudden, she having dropped dead in an out building after having prepared to do some washing today. She was born in Pine Grove, Centre county, November 22, 1834 and was consequently in her fifty-ninth year. She was married to Handford Powell in 1872, her maiden name having been McBride, and is survived by her husband and two brothers, Jackson and John McBride and five sisters, Mrs. C. Cromer and Mrs. L. O'Hara of this city, Mrs. M. Maize of Alexandria, Huntingdon county, Mrs. M. Smith of Cambria county, and Mrs. Ruth Beatty of Erie. She was a member of St. John's Catholic church and of Ladies’ Circle No. 8, G.A.R. The funeral will take place on Thursday morning at 8 o'clock. Interment in St. John’s cemetery.
