4060 ELLA VAN AKEN (Marinus,Cornelius,Jacobus,Anthony, John McMath, Harris on, Ella) b 1861 d 1933 bur Kappa Kappa Gamma Chapter, Hillsdale College. "Once upon a time, six Del ta Tau Delta men of Hillsdale College invited six college girls to spend t he afternoon at a picnic at Cold Water Spring Woods. During the outing, t he girls, envious of the good times described by the men, expressed the wi sh that they might belong to some national fraternity. Theboys immediate ly suggested Kappa Kappa Gamma and offered their assistance. It was hearti ly accepted, and as a result of the combined efforts, the chapter was gran ted to Kappa Chapter on June 9, 1881. The six women mentioned were: Vio la J. Augir, Maria H. Miller, Ella Van Aken, Lora June Reynolds, Harrie tt Knight, and Elizabeth Anne Rowley. In 1916 he joined Cal ifornia State Mining Bureau becoming State Oil & Gas Supervisor.In 19 22 he organized the Bolsa Chica Oil Corporation, which became the second l argest holder in Kettlemen Hills and was the first company to drill in t he ocean off Coal Oil point north of Santa Barbara, California.
