Obit June 26, 1941 Litchfield, Michigan
Mrs. Ella Hughes Bender died at her home at South Litchfield Thursday morning at 4:15, June 19th. She would have been 82 years old June 23. She was born in polk, PA., in 1859.
In her younger days she taught school, from the ages of 18-24 years in Branch County, maryying Frank Bender at the age of 25 in 1883. Mr. Bender has been gone eight years last January, dying at the age of 76 years. They observed their 50th. wedding anniversary in June, 1932. One son, Rolla, was killed by an electrical storm in August 1913, at the age of 18 years.
Suriving are four sons, Peter of Homer, Edward of Detroit, Earl of Litchfield, and Nelson of Ann Arbor; three daughters, Mrs. Lulu Hartley of Union Lake, pontiac, Mrs. Lena Stabler of Farmington, Millie Bender of Detroit; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Kimble of Coldwater, Mrs. Minnie Tift of Chino, Calif; one step-sister, Mrs. Clara Bennett, of Franklin, PA.
Each year in June the families have gotten together one day. This year June 22 would have been their regular reunion date. Mrs. Bender has been a resident of this vicinity about 47 years, living in the present home 42 years.
Funeral Services were held at South Litchfield church Sunday, June 22nd, at two o'clock, Mrs. R.O. Thompson officiating. Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy, the four sons acting as pallbearers.
