P.C. Bender Succumbs At 78
Litchfield - Peter C. Bender, 78 U.S. Army veteran and a retired machinist for the Simpson Mfg. Co. died Wednesday in U.S. Veteran hospital at Ann Arbor where he had been a patient for a month. A resident of Litchfield Township for many years, he, he was born near Quincy Nov. 27, 1884 a son of Franklin and Eleanor Hughes Bender. He resided at 802 Hadley Road, He served in the U.S. Army from 1907 to 1920. On Jan. 13, 1919, he married Neva Harris who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Virginia) Maurer of Chelsea, a son, Richard A. Bender of Breckenridge, two sisters, Mrs. Lena Stabler and Miss Mildred Bender of Detroit, a brother, Edward Bender of Midland, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the Marsh Funeral Home. Rev. Jack Harris of the South Litchfield Baptist Church will officiate. Harry S Kelly Post No. 279, American Legion, will conduct services at Mount Hope Cemetery. there will be a visitation at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:30 to 9:30.
