Obituary from the Midland Daily News Edward R. Bender, 99, 5012 Drake, died Friday, August 8, 1984 at Midland Hospital Center. Born June 10, 1885 at Quincy, Branch County, Michigan. He lived in Litchfield until graduating from Michigan Agricultural College(Now Michigan State University) in 1912. He taught in several cities before moving to the Detroit area in 1921. He taught vocational education at Southeastern High School in Detroit from 1921 til his retirement in 1955. He married the former Elma Samdahl Aug. 24, 1920 at Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She died on Nov. 27, 1968. After his retirement, he moved to Midland in 1955. He was a member of the Gay 50's Senior Christians of St. John's Lutheran Church amd a memeber of St. John's Lutheran Church. He leaves sons Robert Bender of Fort Smith, Ark., John of Charlottesville, Va., and daughter Betty Wilson of Midland; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Services Monday at 11 A.M. at Ware-Smith-Woolever with Rev. Louis I. Koke officiating. Burial will be in the Midland Cemetery. Death Cert: Died of cardiac arythmia, coronary artery disease, arteriosclerosis Father was Frank Bender and mother was Ella Hughes.
