In an article in

, p. 9:45, entitled "Corrections of Printed Authorities", Donald Jacobus refutes several sources that claim John Goodrich's wife was Elizabeth
Edwards

, p. 54, in saying so, and both are frequently cited in turn. But it cannot be so, as Thomas Edwards, her supposed father, b. 1621 based on age at death, was too young to be the father of a woman who married and had a child by 1645. Thomas Edwards' probate "indicate quite clearly" that he had only a daughter Ruth who had issue. Jacobus further speculates that the misunderstanding was the result of misinterpreting a deed of sale from Thomas Edwards to John Goodrich as implying a relationship, when there was none. He summarizes, "The maiden name of Elizabeth, the first wife of John Goodrich, is unknown."
