Elizabeth Smyth's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 16th January 1775 when she married William Cook at Flitton in Bedfordshire. After their marriage they moved about seven miles north-west to Husborne Crawley, where they had four children baptised between 1776 and 1792. Their youngest daughter died in 1796, aged three.

Elizabeth died in 1797, being buried at Husborne Crawley on 20th November 1797. Her burial record does not say how old she was. William survived her by nearly thirty years, and remarried two years after her death.
