    garden returning Mrs LH Brooks widow of TF Brooks of Houma La was born in Terre Bonne parish of that state and is the daughter of William A and Emily Bougouis Shsfler see sketch Mrs Brooks received her education at Shelbyville Ky and after finishing returned to her native parish where she was married in 1859 to TF Brooks To them were born two children Belle S Brooks who completed her studies at New Orleans and returned home and Carrie E who became the wife of CW Bocage of the city of Pine Bluff Ark This lady died July 25 1890 eight months after her marriage at her mother's house the only home she ever knew She was just twenty five years of age and was a young lady of rare accomplishments and excellent judgment The loveliness of her dis position and the purity and nobility of her character made her one of the most popular young ladies of Terre Bonne parish and her death was the occasion of universal sorrow Mrs Brooks owns the Belle Farm plantation close to the town of Houma is also the owner of town property and has an interest in the Crescent farm The late Mr Brooks was an Episcopalian and for twenty years a vestryman of St Matthews English Protestant Episcopal church His widow and both daughters have been active members of the same church.
