[edit] Personal History1852 - Elizabeth Ann Renforth was born May, 24, 1852 in Bornside Parish. Source is the Thoburn family bible and 1901 UK census. However have been unable to locate her birth registration in the UK index. Her birth location is Newcastle, Northumberland. Source is 1901 census. NOTE: Thoburn bible says All Saints Parish, Newcastle, 1861 UK census - she may be listed as Remphford 1871 - Elizabeth 19 married William Thoburn I 22, labourer, on May 29, 1871 in Newcastle on Tyne. Their residence is listed as New Pandon Street, Newcastle. William signed his name but Elizabeth could only make her mark. Witnesses were William Lawson and Annie Taylor. Source is Thoburn bible, UK BMD Marriage Index and 1871 marriage certificate. However, cannot find her as Thoburn in 1871 UK census which was conducted later in the year. 1875 - On the birth of her second son, George Thoburn I, she signed with an X (i.e. she could not write her name). The family lived in Hampton Court, Gateshead. 1881 - UK census - cannot find her as Thoburn. 1901 - Elizabeth 49, was living with William 52, and some of the younger children: John Robert 20, Margaret 18, James 16, Robert 14, Mary 12, William Septimus 10 and Ann 5 at 24 Denmark St, Gateshead, Durham. The older children have either left home or died (William Robert, the eldest of the 14 children, died in 1874, George may be away at the war in South Africa, Elizabeth is away from home and William Thomas died in 1887). Source is 1901 UK Census. 1904 - Elizabeth (51) died Mar 17, 1904 in Gateshead. Source is Thoburn bible. Her death is also listed in the General Register Office (GRO) Index vol 10a, page 622 and confirms her name, age, 51, and where she died - District of Gateshead. Source is Free BDM index UK.
