Originally it was published that Elizabeth Trickley of Newbury Massachusetts married John Robinson, about 1640, and had six children, all born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. While no certain information has yet been found , it is probable that her maiden name was Trickley, who lived in the home of Mr. Alexander Shapleigh, a merchant and ship owner of Kingsweare in Devon, England and an agent of Sir Ferdinando Gorges. [1] Subsequent to this article on John Robinson, further research determined that she was Elizabeth Pemberton, not Elizabeth Trickley.[2] John Robinson (the American immigrant), bp. at Meppershall, 9 Feb. 1611/12; killed 10 Nov. 1675 by Indians while traveling to Hampton, N.H.; m. by Dec. 1641 Elizabeth Pemberton, sister of John and James Pemberton of Boston and Newbury, Mass. She was living as late as 6 Dec. 1678 at Exeter, N.H. Elizabeth Pemberton had two brothers, James and his wife Alice, and John and his wife Elizabeth, who arrived in this country at Charlestown, Masssachusetts, with Winthrop's fleet in 1630. John Pemberton returned to England after the death of his wife, and his will referred to his brother James and his sister "Robinson". John Pemberton had been before the court in Newbury, Massachusetts, in 1641, with John Robinson's wife, for "obscene and filthy speeches and carriages", apparently some outspoken remark. People were quick to take offense and make a court issue.
