John Duncan, b. ca. 1753, m. Elizabeth Patterson, Dec. 29, 1792, d. January 13, 1823. Elizabeth dau. of James and Elizabeth Patterson, b. 1768 in New Jersey, d. January 29, 1855. Tradition from Mrs. Sarah Ruth Duncan Holland, Green Sulphur Springs, West Va. given to Mrs. T.B. Kitchen in Sept. 1951. (Mrs. Holland was gr. gr. grandau. of John and Elizabeth and had their bible). She stated that JOHN DUNCAN came across the Blue Ridge Mountains with the Pattersons and often carried Elizabeth and said that he would marry here when she grew into womanhood.
