There is some conflicting information about the place of birth. Urban Bowen, grandson of Elizabeth, said in a November 2002 letter that she was born in Greensburg, Ky. Other information I have states that Elizabeth and her fraternal twin sister, Anna Susan, were born in Taylor County, Ky.

The Gaddie Family Bible (Jerry D. Abshier has a copy) shows a marriage date of 23 December 1896 for Elizabeth J. Osborne. The problem is that it does not say if her husband in that marriage was Mr. Skaggs or Mr. Shelton.

Ida (Thomas) Sebring, told an interesting story about her Aunt Lizzie during a conversation in January 2001. Lizzie had evidently come to live with her sister Anna Susan Thomas, because her (Lizzie's) husband had run off with one of the underage stepdaughters of the twin's mother's ex-husband (John B. Osborn). Lizzie was expecting her second child at the time and the story goes something like this:

The women were sitting around the fireplace knitting when Anna heard a loud scream and asked Lizzie if she heard it. Lizzie said she did,and that she also was feeling a pressure bearing down on her shoulders. None of the children present in the room heard the scream. The baby was later born dead, with a broken neck. They all figured that the baby died becasue of a certain way that Lizzie bent over during the screaming event. The entire event was taken as some sort of 'sign' of the baby's impending stillbirth.
