James OSWALD was b. 23jul1703, son of George Oswald, minister of Dunnet, Caithness, and d. 2aug1793; James married (1) 15jan1728, Elizabeth MURRAY (d. 20aug1746), daughter of James Murray of Clairden, and (2) 27jan1749 Margaret DUNBAR (d. 12dec1779), daughter of Sir Patrick Dunbar of Northfield (Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae). James (1703 Dunnet Manse-3aug1793 Scotstoun) married Elizabeth Murray of Clardon (b. 1715 Pennyland, Caithness) (A. Duncan). James was ord to Dunnett 1726; pres by David Smyth of Methven, Perthshire, 1748, trans and adm 1750. Became moderator of Assembly and D.D. 1765. Retd 1783 to Scotstoun (Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae).
