Information from Alex Thompson: Guardianship records in Caswell Co. NC show that after Eliza's parents died, Samuel Mitchell [her uncle] was the guardian from 1832 through 1836 of her, her sister Harriet, and cousin Elizabeth Ann Mitchell [daughter of David Mitchell III and wife Nancy Muzzall]. By 1844, James Currie was Eliza F Mitchell's guardian. He was the husband of her aunt, Elizabeth A Mitchell. James Currie received slaves on her behalf from the estate of [her grandfather] David Mitchell.

The last guardianship record for Eliza was: Caswell Co. Guardian's Accounts, 1843-1845: 1845, p. 298: James Currie guardian of Eliza F Mitchell. "Note on Lemuel Mebane. This ward now intermarried with Thomas Y. Mebane who is over 21 and gives receipt for wife's legacy. 10 Oct 1844."
