Page 214--"He [Jonathan Knight] was married, in Greenwich, in 1813, by the Rev. Dr. Isaac Lewis (Yale 1765), to Elizabeth, daughter of the late James Lockwood (Yale 1766), and she died in New Haven on January 21, 1844, at the age of 56." Page 215--"His [Jonathan Knight's] eldest daughter married the Rev. William T. Bacon (Yale 1837)." Elizabeth Lockwood is buried at Grove Street Cemetery, [29 Cedar Lane] New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. The Cemetery is located near Yale University, across from the old Center Church, currently referred to as the First Church of Christ in New Haven. Her name and other pertinent information appears on the left side of the tall white monument marking the burial place of her husband and herself. Elizabeth Lockwood was the daughter of Revolutionary War Soldier, Brigade-Major James Lockwood (Yale 1766) and Ann Grigg. Ann Grigg was the daughter of Captain John Grigg and Ann Bush. Elizabeth was the granddaughter of the Rev. James Lockwood, the reputed minister of the First Congregational Church of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Rev. James Lockwood was a 1735 graduate of Yale University and had been offered the presidencies of both Yale College and The University at New Jersey which became Princeton. He declined both postitions. The wife of of Rev. James Lockwood was Mary Dickinson. She was the daughter of the Rev. Moses Dickinson who was also a Yale Graduate and the brother of the President of Princeton University, Nathaniel Dickinson. |
