BIOGRAPHY: The following info was garnered from his obituary published in the New Milford Gazette, Friday, July 23, 1897:

"DR. J. K. "KNIGHT" BACON--On last Saturday afternoon, after an illness of several weeks, the spirit of Dr. J. K. Bacon passed away. The funeral was held at the doctor's late residence on Elm Street on Tuesday afternoon and there was a large attendance of the people of this village. Both at the house and at the cemetery, the beautiful Episcopal service was read by the Rev. F. B. Draper of All Saints' Memorial church and the Rev. J. F. Plumb of St. John's, and a quartette composed of Dr. Charles Morehouse, Frank B. Lake, Arthur G. Todd and A. H. Jennings sang, "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The remains were interred in this village [Center Cemetery, Elm St]. Dr. Jonathan Knight Bacon was of distinguished parentage and was the son of William T. Bacon of this county [Litchfield] and Elizabeth Knight of New Haven, Conn., and was born in New Haven, August 10, 1840. He graduated from the medical school of Yale College in the class of 1864, and entered the Navy during the late rebellion [The Civil War], serving as an assistant surgeon, and was in the fleet under Admiral Farregut in the capture of Mobile [Alabama]. While pursuing his medical studies, Dr. Bacon had the benefit of the special tutelage of his grandfather, the noted Dr. Jonathan Knight Bacon [the author was incorrect, it should read "Dr. Jonathan Knight"] of New Haven after whom he was named. Dr. Bacon began the practice of medicine in New Milford in January 1868. On December 16, 1868, he was married to Sophie, eldest daughter of the late Frederick A. Marsh of Litchfield, who survives him. For nearly thirty years, Dr. Bacon has been a familiar personage in this community and known far and wide for his quick perception, for his firm and accurate judgement, and for his skill in his profession, and his gentle touch, both as a physician and a surgeon. Dr. Bacon leaves behind him three brothers, Walter C. Bacon of Kansas City, D. H. Bacon of Derby, Conn., and Fred A. Bacon of Pittsfield, Pa [incorrect, should read Pittsburgh, Pa] and two sisters, Mrs. Annie Bacon Shaw and Miss Rebecca T. Bacon of Derby."
