Birth[1] 1841 Totternhoe, Bedfordshire, England
Census[2] 6 Jun 1841 Totternhoe, Bedfordshire, England
Census[3] 30 Mar 1851 Kensworth, Hertfordshire, England

Elizabeth Kempson was born in 1841 at Totternhoe in Bedfordshire, England, daughter of a straw plaitter named Charlotte Kempson, formerly Sharp, and her husband James Kempson, a straw dealer. Elizabeth appears with her parents and siblings in the 1841 census living in Totternhoe. She appears to have been the youngest of four children.

By 1851 the family had moved to the neighbouring parish of Kensworth, and ten year old Elizabeth (or Betsey as she was called in that census) was working as a straw plaitter. She has yet to be researched after 1851.
