Elizabeth Hudson’s origins have yet to be established. The age quoted when she died suggests that she was born around 1759. Her first confirmed sighting is on Christmas Day in 1777, when she married Thomas Simkins at Cranfield in Bedfordshire.

Elizabeth and Thomas went on to have six children baptised between 1778 and 1792 in the neighbouring parish of Marston Moretaine, although two of their sons died as babies and a daughter died when only six years old.

Elizabeth died in March 1830, when she was said to be seventy years old. Thomas survived her by just five months.
