Samuel Henderson accompanied his brother Col. Richard Henderson and his friend Col. Richard Calloway with the Transylvania contingent to the vicinity of Boonsboro, Kentucky, in June, 1776. The romantic story of the capture of Elizabeth Calloway and Jemimah Boone by the Indians and their rescue by Daniel Boone and Samuel Henderson forms an interesting chapter in early Kentucky history and has often been repeated. Elizabeth Calloway was the eighth child of Col. Richard Calloway and his wife Frances Walton and was born August 14, 1760.
